Sokay

We decided to name our hotel Sokay in order to remind of the beauty of the Bulgarian woman. This ancient adornment, inherited from the Boliaric crown, typical of the Veliko Tarnovo, was transferred to Tryavna region after the fall of the kingdom of Bulgaria under Ottoman rule in the 14th century and became a part of the bulgarian traditional women’s costume.

In fact, the hotel was build on the old school which was erected more than a century ago with donations and labor from the local bulgarians residents. The construction has been renovated and modernized, yet the old stone school building was preserved.

There are 8 rooms (4 rooms with king-size beds and 4 rooms with two single beds). Every room bears the name of a local herb corresponding to a beautiful Bulgarian woman’s name at the same time, because we believe in their healing power and in their everlasting beauty and harmony. Lavender, Perunica, Rouge and Iglika, Dilanka, Thyme, Salvia, Kalina. In the hotel there are also 3 apartments – one with a living room, a bedroom and a children’s room with two beds, two suites with a living room and a kitchenette and a bedroom. There is also a dining room (25 seats), with a fireplace, an outside dining place with a furnace (15 seats) and also a fully fitted kitchen where you can prepare your own food. On the top floor there is a meeting room, a pool table, a gym and a yoga class.
