Trappist Dubbel Another Belgian beer. |This one however is a traditional trappist beer, which means that along with its siblings Enkel, Tripel and Quadrupel has been crafted according to old traditions in the trappist monasteries by abbey monks for hundreds of years. A dry, top fermenting beer with a characteristic dark brown colour and a taste of dark fruits (prunes, figs, dates, raisins). The addition of caramelized beet sugar further increases the alcohol content and gravity. The spicy flavors and exotic aromas are due to coriander and black or white pepper. The sophisticated taste and fruity bouquet are also achieved thanks to the special trappist yeasts used traditionally for fermenting. Cask aging is also common for the style.
